Hi, my name is Linda. And I’m the CEO, Senior Designer, Senior Engineer and Janitor at Sweet Ginger Designs. Having my own business has been a dream for many years and my vision of it has changed over time, so much so, that had I written this back in 2018 when I reserved this URL, it would be quite different. Life changes and I’ve changed along with it.
Computer Geek
You would probably consider me to be a bit of a geek and I’d not deny it. I started playing with computers before they were on people’s desks at work, very few people had a home and there weren’t cell phones. I’m retired now, but still I play with computers. These days, I like to use my computer to create things with purpose, even if the purpose is often simply the joy of creating.
Maker
I have always been a maker of things. My grandmother taught me to sew doll clothes before I had even started grade school. I have dabbled in all sorts of arts and crafts my whole life. In 2000, I was introduced into the world of machine embroidery and got heavily into quilting for several years. Just prior to retiring, I had been teaching others how to digitize embroidery designs at a local quilt shop. I had thought that Sweet Ginger Designs might be embroidery and quilting designs.
Retiree
After retirement, I felt like I had started to drift through time without making progress toward my longer term goals. I needed to keep track of the days, because without that clear demarcation between weekend and weekday, it can be easy loose track. Early in my work career, I used a half-letter size, daily planner from Franklin Covey. I carried it everywhere and kept everything in it for my work and personal life. One of my co-workers called it my brain. It did certainly help me stay on top of things. I felt that using a paper planner again might be a good choice again.
Planner Addict
I had picked up an ARC half-letter disc binder with note paper when I was teaching and started making planner pages to fit it. Then I tried a bullet journal, Happy Planners … all with mixed success. Turns out I’m a Franken-planner sort of gal – I use the features I find helpful and switch out what doesn’t work with another planner insert or most likely, my own version. I started making pages and stickers that were customized to what I needed.
Dreamer
So at Sweet Ginger Designs “birth”, it is all about printables and stickers and all things planners, journals, memory keeping, paper crafting and organization.
Why Sweet Ginger Designs?
I suppose I ought to mention the inspiration behind the name. I have two lovely grand daughters and we love to get together and make things – they are an inspiration to me in so many ways. And my sweet grand daughters are little red heads … so they are my “sweet gingers”. Sweet Gingers Designs was too many s’s for me and Sweet Gingers Design didn’t feel right.
I hope you will find something helpful in all that I have to share on this blog – I’m looking forward to the journey.
