End of the Year Planning Tip #22 – Identify Resources For Completing Goals

With Christa, the Christmas Elf with a Plan – 22 December

End of the Year Planning Tip #22 – Identify resources that will be of use.

I think Christa’s getting excited that Christmas is just days away.  Or perhaps, the nutcracker, snowman and bears are possible mentors for her as she works toward her goals over the next year.  Oh, yeah.  Now I remember.  The Habit Plan she left out for us to see said she rewards her yoga habit completion by engaging in Elf Mischief.  And it’s OK.  I checked.  That’s not maple syrup in her little elf sized glass.  It’s a root beer float.

The End of the Year Planning Tip for today is to identify resources that will be of use to you in completing your goals in the new year.   There are many different types of resources available that will help you in your efforts.  So start a new list, add to lists you already have, and/or make notes on your goals worksheets and brainstorm some ideas.

(I’m feeling a little excited that Christmas is getting closer, too.  I’m going to keep this short, sweet, and to the point.)

Hear are some ideas for types of resources you might be able to use:

Mentors and Peers

Do you know someone who has already accomplished the goal you are working toward?  If so, you could ask them to be your mentor.  Try to set up opportunities to talk with them periodically about any questions you may have or challenges you’re working through.  Good advice can come from their own experiences and lessons learned.  They can also motivate, encourage, and hold you accountable to yourself and your goals.

Do you have peers who are working on the same goals?  Getting together with others who are moving in the same direction as you can provide opportunities to share ideas, get feedback, motivation and encouragement, and accountability.

Books

It’s likely you can find books to help you learn new skills related to your goal.  But books can provide more than technical education; they can help you with guiding your personal growth.  Look for books about (or written by) people who’ve achieved your goals and that you admire.  Learn what they felt was key to their success by reading their life stories.

Classes

Classes can be an excellent way to increase your skill level.  You may also discover mentors and peers to team up with for additional benefit, too.

Topics for Research

Maybe there’s topics that you know just enough about to know you need to know more before you go to far into the year.  So of, create of list of things you want to research.  Instead of mindless scrolling, you can be researching the topic online and answering your questions.

New Equipment

If health and fitness are part of your goal, purchasing new running shoes, a fitness band or a more accurate scale may cross your mind.  Or maybe you have been considering a new kitchen gadget to streamline healthy meal prep.  That could be a research topic before purchasing new equipment.

And there’s probably lots more I will think of five minutes after I publish this post.  But you get the idea.  Let your thought flow and capture them in your planner.  Later, you can look to your Personal Assistant (planner) to give you ideas if you are hitting a block.

Happy Planning,

Linda

Hi, I’m Linda

Welcome to the Sweet Ginger Designs blog where I plan to discuss all sorts of planner topics including how to find the “right” functional planner for your needs, tips/tricks/hacks for planners, favorite tools, and creating your own planner pages and dividers. I’m just getting starting and hope you join me to see where this goes.

I have been using some sort of planner in my daily life for 40+ years and have used just about every layout there is and several I’ve made up. I’ve used digital “planners” in the past and have started to experiment with using a digital planner, but I do enjoy a paper planner most. In addition to all that planner experience, I also have a background in continuous process improvement and bring those ideas into the planning strategies I like to discuss.

And last, I do have a small Etsy shop, too.

Drop me a message at Linda@sweetgingerdesigns.com if you have any questions or have a topic you’d like to see covered.
